Journey from Eco-Lodge to Eco-Lodge: Hiking the Ancient Trails

This is a trip to two traditional hot spring inns located in the national park. Experience the beautiful ridgelines and ancient trails while immersing yourself in the unique nature and culture of snow country created by the heavy snow environment.
The two inns are eco-lodges that are considerate of the environment and local community. 5% of the tour fee will be donated to trail conservation.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
13:00 A guide will meet you at Echigo Yuzawa Station, where you will learn about the connection between snow and culture at the Snow Country Museum. Then, head to the eco-lodge at Kaikake Onsen for your first night. Before dinner, the guide will brief you on the history of the route and safety tips for the trekking ahead. Relax in the hot springs to prepare for the next day’s trek.(Around 15:00)

Day 2: Trekking to the Summit
8:00 Depart early in the morning and walk the ancient trail that samurai once traveled. After crossing several passes, follow the mountain path to the summit. Enjoy a long trek along the scenic ridgeline towards the peak of Mount Tairappyo. Tonight you will stay at a mountain hut run by a family that has preserved the mountains and paths for three generations.(Around 15:30)

Day 3: Trekking to the Eco-Lodge
7:00 After breakfast, depart from the summit and descend the mountain trail along the ancient path. This old trail through the forest features remnants of medieval samurai battles, allowing you to feel the historical atmosphere. Walk from the ancient path to arrive at the eco-lodge at Hōshi Onsen. Relax in the historic wooden hot springs to soak away the fatigue from the trek.(Around 14:00)

Day 4: Departure
Enjoy a leisurely morning at the charming ryokan until check-out. You can also explore the natural surroundings of the eco-lodge. Around12:00 Travel by car to Jomo-Kogen Station on the Joetsu Shinkansen line.
